Set in 17th century Amsterdam, 18 year old Nella marries a wealthy merchant and receives a wedding gift of a cabinet size replica of their home. Secrets, love and betrayal are uncovered to reveal the dangers faced by the family.
Overall the group enjoyed the story and the atmospheric description of 17th century Amsterdam. It was easy to read, well researched and unexpected twists in the plot.
Several readers found the plot confusing and would have liked more depth to the characters. What was the miniaturist’s role?
