On the evening of Thursday 26th January 2023 our Book Group gathered at Honley Library to discuss this book that was published in 2018. It is available through the Kirklees Libraries Book Group Service.
The book is part detective story, part an insight into old age and memory loss, and part a commentary on the social care system. The setting for the book is a sheltered housing complex.
The Group discussed the book’s literary merits, the quality of its characterisation, its readability, and its success as a detective story. The last was thought not to have been very successful, although, overall, the book was well received by the Group.
We also discussed getting old, social care and dementia. Members of the Group shared some of their personal experiences of dementia and of social care.
At the end of our discussions we rate the books we have read out of 10. Three Things about Elsie received an average score of about 8.
